Food Glorious Food at HGA Secondary
We thought you'd like to see some of the lovely dishes our secondary students have made in Food Technology this term.
Key Stage 3 students are working hard to develop their cooking skills and produce a range of predominantly savoury dishes, while Key Stage 4 pupils have been using new equipment to enhance their cooking and complete their GCSE practical exams.
Year 7 have been developing confidence with the use of tools such as hobs, ovens and various knife skills. Pupils made savoury dishes such as seasoned potato wedges, pasta pomodoro, marinara and ragu.

Year 8 are focusing on diet, health, healthier cooking methods and adapting recipes. Here you can see their stir frying, chicken and vegetable fajitas, and spaghetti bolognese.

Year 9 are making dishes from various cultures, including British and international cuisine, and exploring diversity in food preparation. Some of the dishes included Chinese noodle stir fry, jollof rice and plantain, jerk chicken with rice and peas, sweet and sour chicken, tazanki, Nigerian meat pies, varieties of sushi, and pizzas.
Year 10 demonstrated a range of technical GCSE skills with a wide range of food commodities, using pasta machines, blow torch and food processors safely.
Year 11 demonstrated excellent progress in completing their three-hour GCSE food practical exam with some amazing outcomes.
In our secondary co-curricular Cooking Club this term, pupils have been preparing a range of savoury dishes using the ovens and hobs. They were excited to make leavened flatbreads and chilli beef bean burritos.
Our outstanding Food Award for the term to goes to Jay, Year 10, for his creativity and excellent display of technical GCSE skills, in addition to excellent academic progress in Food Preparation and Nutrition. Below are two of his featured restaurant standard dishes: chicken katsu curry and duo of baked cheesecake (matcha strawberry and vanilla mango).
