School-Led Tutoring Brings Extra One-To-One Support
School-led tutoring has been an exciting new development for Harris Garrard’s curriculum this year.
Thanks to funding from the Department for Education, topped up with some of our own, we have been able to give over 500 students access to 15-30 hours of private one-to-one tuition with their very own Maths, English, Science, History or Geography subject specialist.
The overall aim is to help students catch-up with any learning they might have missed because of school closures due to Covid-19, to make sure they are ready for their GCSEs.
Current tutoring projects - English, Maths, Reading, Revision
There are three tutoring projects currently running.
- KS3 English and Maths Champions: 90 students have been carefully selected by the Head of Maths and Head of English to receive an hour a week of extra tutoring in their subjects to help them thrive and meet their potential.
- Year 7 Readers Project: Every Year 7 student in the school has received one hour’s private reading tuition in the library with a literacy specialist, who has supported them with inference, deduction, articulation and comprehension. Any issues are immediately diagnosed and further intervention is then able to be put in place.
- Year 11 revision tutoring: All Year 11 parents and students were offered unlimited one-to-one evening online tuition with a specialist teacher in the GCSE exams they want support with. Why revise alone, when you can do it supported by a specialist qualified teacher?
New tutoring projects this term
There are also exciting new tutoring projects we are looking forward to beginning in the summer term.
- Are you ready for GCSEs? All Year 9 parents will receive a link on the last day of half term 5 to select any one-to-one online private tutoring they would like for their child over the summer holidays, to get them ready for KS4 learning.
- Are you ready for your final year? Any Year 10 students currently struggling in any EBacc subjects will be given fully-funded summer tuition so they can start Year 11 feeling ahead of the game, rather than playing catch up.
We are so looking forward to evaluating the results of all our private tuition, and can’t wait to share the results with parents and students involved at the end of the academic year.
