Isaac Competes in Public Speaking Competition
Isaac, Year 10, represented Harris Garrard Academy in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge recently, a national competition to promote public speaking amongst young people.
Isaac was chosen from over 60 students who took part in the heats at the academy last term. To be selected, Isaac had to deliver a speech to the whole school after attending a public speaking workshop, learning about techniques such as posture and projection.
“More confident”
Isaac admits he found pubic speaking difficult at first. “People said I look confident but I wasn’t inside. In the heats I made my talk humorous, about all the things that can go wrong because of mobile phones, such as you step in a puddle because you’re busy on your phone. I’m much more confident now as a result of this opportunity.”
In the finals Isaac gave a speech titled ‘Say Mums’, about how his mother is very often right. "Although he did not win he gave an outstanding performance and we were all very proud," said Ms Langan.
Isaac's friends made him this fantastic poster to help him with his speech.
