Year 9 Football Team Triumph in Harris Cup
The Year 9 football team were out for redemption this year after losing in the quarter final against Harris Purley last year.
This year started on a high, beating Harris Riverside away 2-0. This was a nail-biting match which we were winning 1-0 with two minutes to go before Harris Riverside were awarded a penalty. With hearts in mouths our goalkeeper and captain stepped up and saved the day diving to his right to save the penalty and keep us in the lead.
In the next round we played a strong Harris Merton side, who put up a tough test but eventually we ran out as winners, winning the game 5-0. We then got a walkover in the semi final to match the Year 8s achievement and also advance into the Harris cup final.
The year 9s set the tone for the final day as they were up first against Harris Chafford in what was HGA’s first ever Harris Cup Final. The boys started so strongly and stormed the first half taking a 5-1 lead going into the second half. The second half the boys stayed focused and kept onto that lead winning the game 5-1 and becoming the best under 14 team in the entire Federation.
