Year 8 Football Team Wins Harris Cup
This year has been remarkable for our Year 8 football team. Considering it is their first year playing 11-a-side football they have made the transition look easy.
They have come along so much from the start of the year and have played some unbelievable football on their way to the trophy.
In the first round of the Harris Cup, they came from 2-0 down at half time, to turn the game around and beat a very strong Harris Greenwich side 5-2 to advance into the next round.
It was in the next round that came my proudest moment as the manager, as Harris Garrard came from 3-1 down with five minutes left to win 4-3 against Harris Beckenham. This win showed me that the boys had amazing resilience to not give up and continue until the end.
In the next round they remained focus and played some amazing football beating Harris Riverside 3-0 to advance into the semi-final. In the semi final we faced Harris Wimbledon, and this resulted in an amazing 8-3 win to reach our first ever Harris cup Final.
The final was played at Crystal Palace training ground. This was an amazing experience for our students who were able to play on an amazing pitch against an unbelievable Harris Crystal Palace side.
This was a close match which Crystal Palace took the lead in until we scored an amazing equaliser. The boys showed so much determination to get the win and continued till the very end, winning the game 4-1 to be crown the best U13 team in the Federation for the first time in HGA history.
