HGA 0 Chafford 0 (Chafford Won on Penalties)
The HGA Year 11 football team played Chafford Hundred Harris Academy in the Harris Cup on 15 November.
It was a very close first half with both teams having chances at each end. HGA had the clearer cut chances and should have been 1-0 up after ten minutes. A chance in front of goal from Jordan was hit directly at the keeper who saved and cleared his lines.
Both teams were a credit to the Harris Federation and a well contested match was great to see. Both keepers looked solid and Williams showed great handling in the HGA goal.
In the 2nd half the HGA stepped up the tempo and again had three clear chances to win the game. The best chance coming from Ayo who out-paced the Chafford defence to hit his shot directly at the goalkeeper who was having a solid game and was my man of the match for Chafford. The Chafford goalkeeper made three great saves with his feet, each time keeping Chafford in the cup.
The boys were virtually playing in the dark, when we had to make the decision to cut the game to 20 minutes in the second half. This was disappointing for our boys, who were pushing forward and likely to score the first goal in the game. Unfortunately the game ended 0-0 and had to be decided with a penalty shoot-out.
With some great penalties from both sides, it went down to the 7th penalty. Unfortunately it was not our day and Maliques penalty was saved by the Chafford goal keeper. Good luck to Chafford in the next round and I was very proud of the year 11s performance as a team. They deserved the win overall. Let’s hope the boys continue with the same attitudes and performance in the North Kent Cup.
Well done boys.
