Academy Day - Tuesday 14 November - Full Report
On Tuesday 14th November, students took part in our first Academy Day. Each year we will be holding three Academy Days when the normal timetable is suspended so that students can participate in a range of engaging, enriching and educational activities such as workshops, competitions and visits.
Here's what happened on our first Academy Day, which included a trip to the National Maritime Museum for Year 9 (see picture below).
Year 7 – Science Museum Trip
Students travelled to South Kensington to have a walking tour of the Science Museum and visit the Wonder Lab exhibition. They took part in the experiential learning exhibitions and watched the Wonder Lab demonstration.
Year 8 – The Real Game
Students participated in the Real Game, the purpose of which is to introduce them to the world of work and the theme of 'aspirations vs reality'. They had an opportunity to look at specific careers and budget spending against income. As part of the careers curriculum for Year 8, students participated in work related learning workshops and games to earn points for prizes!
Year 9 – Visit to the Maritime Museum
Year 9 students went to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Throughout the day students visited various exhibitions including one about Death in the Ice. History GCSE students attended a workshop on the British Empire. They spent the day exploring British Heritage at Sea.
Year 10 – PSHE and Careers Day
Students participated in a rolling programme of PSHE workshops throughout the day. Workshops included a combination of external agencies presenting to students on drug awareness and internet safety and internally run workshops on mindfulness and emotional well-being.
Year 11 – Revision and Booster Day
Our year 11 students had the opportunity to boost their progress by attending focussed subject sessions. Students were allocated individualised timetables for the day on the basis of those subjects in which they needed the most support.
We look forward to another great Academy Day next term!
