Student Leadership - Meet The Students Making a Difference
The voices of our students are a critical force in shaping our work at Harris Garrard Academy. To make sure the voices of our students are heard, we elect Student Leaders from across the school to represent students.
Our senior Student Leaders for this year are Daniella (Head Student), Alfie and Esther (Vice Head Students) and Avielle, Eva, Rebekah and Samantha (Hub Captains). They elected from our Sixth Formers last summer, after undergoing an interview with the Head of Academy.
They have been crucial in both ensuring that younger students have been led, heard and supported, through running Hub and Sub-Committee meetings.
In the lower years, students have been represented through elected Tutor Group Representatives, who were elected from each tutor group at the start of the academic year.
Each of these have been involved in Hub and Sub-Committee meetings, to discuss students’ opinions and concerns on both the general daily running of the school as well as issues specific to their Sub-Committee. The Sub-Committees have included:
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Eco-committee
- Pastoral, Attendance and Behaviour
- Teaching and Learning (including Digital)
Leaders of these groups have then met with Senior Leaders from the school to put forward their suggestions for changes and improvements to the different aspects of the school.
In addition to listening to and representing the voices of students, student leaders have been instrumental in representing the school in public-facing roles, including at open evenings, parents’ evenings, and, in particularly, the visit of Abena Oppong-Asare MP to the school in March of this year (pictured below).
At all times our Student Leaders have proved themselves to be not only compassionate and caring listeners and representatives of students, but also a credit to the school in their outward-facing roles.
