Year 10 GCSE RS Trip to East London Mosque
Year 10 GCSE RS students went on a trip to East London Mosque (ELM), Whitechapel, in March. The aim of this visit was for students to explore Islamic worship, which links to Paper 1 of their GCSE RS – Muslim Practices.
The students visited the Mosque to understand more about the importance of the five pillars and how the Mosque plays a major part in a Muslim's life.
Alongside this, students also learned about the history of the community and why the East End were a popular destination for immigrants in the 1950s, the benefits of living in a multicultural and diverse city, and what ELM are currently doing to support the community.
For most students it was the first time they visited East London, hearing the call of prayer, witnessing how prayer is performed and travelling out of Thamesmead.
