Garrard Scholars Graduate at SOAS University
Eleven students in Years 8 and 9 celebrated their success in the Brilliant Club Scholars Programme this week, with a graduation ceremony at SOAS University of London.
For the programme, students studied issues around peace, conflict and gender, supported by a PhD scholar, and then completed a 1500 word essay. The students were graded at a university level, with one student, Lily, earning a 1st with a remarkable 82 marks.
At the awards ceremony, Year 9 student Dezi represented HGA by speaking to the nearly 200 people gathered for the celebration about how the programme widened her learning. The students were also able to tour the university and were particularly impressed with the library.
The Scholars Programme brings university-style learning to secondary schools, with PhD scholars sharing their subject knowledge and passion for learning with small groups of pupils. We are very proud of our scholars and all they have achieved!
