RSPB Award for Looking After Our Environment
Our primary phase Environmental Committee is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded our RSPB Wild Challenge Silver Award, due to all the hard work we are putting into looking after our environment.
The Wild Challenge award is a specially developed suite of activities for schools to engage children with nature and provide practical learning opportunities. Well done everyone!
Over the past year we have taken part in a range of activities focused on our local school environment and how we can support the flora and fauna within it. Our care for the environment is interwoven with our curriculum, Forest School and outdoor classroom days. Some of the activities we have completed include:
- Looking at the biodiversity of our site and creating an action plan on how to improve it
- Taking part in the Big Schools Birdwatch
- Planted a variety of trees around the school site, grown vegetables in our kitchen garden, planted spring bulbs and left areas for wildflowers.
We have also taken time to look closer at the different habitats and what is within them, and used the environment as a stimulus for writing.
