Year 9 Students Get the Taste for University
Ten students from Year 9 went to the University of Southampton this week for the Brilliant Club Launch trip.
These pupils will be working with a Brilliant Club tutor this term and will then complete a 2,000 word assignment at the end of term.
The Brilliant Club, a national initiative, helps students develop the skills, confidence and ambition they need to secure places at top universities. Students attend university-style tutorials at school, led by PhD students from top universities, and then write an extended assignment to finish the project.
The trip to Southampton was our students' first exposure to the Brilliant Club and they had the opportunity to learn more about the programme and what will be expected of them. We were given a tour of the university campus by two undergraduates, visiting their working engineering laboratory and the anechoic chamber in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (pictured below).
The pupils also took part in two sessions led by The Brilliant Club tutors, aimed at preparing them for the course ahead. It was a wonderful day and the pupils were exceptionally behaved. They had lots of questions for the undergraduates and the tutors and really engaged with every aspect of the day. Well done to:
