Legal Work Experience Opportunity - Year 12
Despite the on-going challenges students are facing, international law firm, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) are still committed to offer work experience to Year 12 students as part of their commitment to improve access to the legal profession.
BCLP hope that by the summer, face-to-face work experience will be possible and have devised a schedule that combines both skill development and real-life experiences of how law firms interact with a range of sectors. This programme will be delivered virtually if offices remain shut. Please note applications shut on Monday 10th May 2021.
Phase 1
4th, 5th & 6th August 2021 – Three days at BCLP gaining a real insight into what lawyers do on a daily basis as well as information on the different routes in to the profession, a number of skills sessions to help prepare students for the world of work and the opportunity to take part in a challenge to win a £500 charity donation.
9th-13th August 2021 – A week visiting different organisation each day in a variety of sectors. During the week students will learn how law firms interact with their clients and the different roles for lawyers in these organisations. There will be plenty of opportunities to build your personal network and speak to people from all of the different organisations involved.
Phase 2
On completion of the two weeks, students will progress onto BCLP’s alumni programme where they will be able to get continued support from BCLP representatives including work shadowing opportunities, mentoring and further skills workshops.
Work experience for Year 12 students is an extremely important part of a student’s sixth form/college experience. As well as giving students the chance to learn more about the legal sector, the work experience programme often helps to demystify certain industries to a diverse group of young people.
