Sydney Wins Bexley Art Prize
Sydney, Year 7, has won first prize in the Bexley Black History Month Competition for her artwork Dream, pictured below.
Sydney came first in the secondary school category and will now have her picture in the winter edition of the Bexley Magazine, which is delivered to homes across the borough.
“We were very impressed with the standard of the entries and agreed that yours was the best in the secondary school section,” said Councillor Alex Sawyer. “I hope our magazine readers enjoy your work as much as we did and that you are very proud of your efforts.”
Sydney’s work was inspired by a number of artists who were aiming to capture the essence of diversity in their work. “We are incredibly proud of the work that Sydney has done and the talent she has shown in her work. I am very much looking forward to having a copy of the artwork hung in the Academy,” said Head of Academy Mr West.
The judging panel included representatives from members of Bexley’s Black and Asian Minority Ethnic community network and the Council’s Black and Asian Minority Ethnic staff group.
