Character Day, Monday 23rd September - Report and Pictures
Today was the first of our six annual Character Days at Harris Garrard Academy. Pupils and staff spent the day off timetable to deliver sessions to develop the character and cultural capital of our pupils. Some highlights of the day are below.
Year 7 had a day of developing their love of languages and learning about xenophobia. The picture shows Ms Kaur teaching Year 7 about why it is important to learn a language.
Year 11 and 7 had a special Learning Conference delivered by Mr Case (below) to explain the science of learning and long-term memory. It gave our pupils time to also practise using their Knowledge Organisers for maximum learning gain.
Half of Year 8 took part in an enterprise challenge, where they designed a sandwich, created the product in Food Technology, as well as an advertising campaign with the Art department. Pupils then competed in a Dragon’s Den style competition to pitch their sandwich to the other groups, to ‘sell' their sandwich. Images of some of the sandwiches are below.
