Literary Canon Launched on World Book Day
Harris Garrard Academy launched its 'Literary Canon' on World Book Day - a reading initiative designed to promote a love of reading canonical texts.
There are 100 incredible books on the Literary Canon list - 50 for Key Stage 4 and 50 for Key Stage 3. And we now have three brand spanking new copies of every single one in the library - that's 300 brand new books!

Every student now has a reading journal to start working their way through the canon and reading the books, and we plan on giving out big prizes in awards assembly for those that have read the most books on the canon.
"We have been inundated with students keen to have the books they've already read signed off in their reading journal," said Ms Matthews. "The launch has been so popular that we've already ordered more books to meet the demand!"
Canon 'book of the week'
Teachers are also currently reading books on the canon to review them for a 'Canon book of the week' in Harris news.
The Key Stage 3 launch on Thursday was a huge success and over half of the books were taken out of the library by eager students. All students that attended the launch got a free WBD book mark.

Every teacher in Key Stages 3 and 4 has a catalogue of the books, to help them encourage students to read.
Three copies of all 100 books on the HGA Literary Canon are now in the school library.
