GCSE Success After First Year as a Harris Academy
Harris Garrard Academy is celebrating its first set of GCSE results after opening as a Harris Federation school last September. 72% of students achieved at least a level 4 in English and Maths and 47% achieved at least level 5.
Notable successes included Hillary (pictured below with her father) whose results included three grade 9s and five grade 8s. "I put a lot of hard work in but the teachers always helped too and were available whenever I needed them," she said. "Although it was tiring it all paid off!"
Erika (below) was also delighted with her results, which included grade 6 in English and Art and a Merit in Child Development.
John (pictured below with Ms Bywater) topped the academy's table for progress, achieving high passes in the challenging English and Maths exams. "I worked really hard, I believed I could do well and really achieved a lot and I'm pleased," he said. "The school gives me good support and the teachers are very helpful. We can come and ask them any questions and they really help us."

Jakub (pictured above, first right) also achieved excellent results. "I got my usual 9 in Maths, my strongest subject, but I was really proud of my 8 in English Literature too as that was a real surprise for me. I think the general comfortable atmosphere at the school helped me do well and the teachers are really good. They can teach you what you are missing."
Head of Academy Dan Smith (above, left) said: "Our motto is Learning Changes Lives and nowhere is that motto more poignant than on results day when we see that the results the students are collecting enable them to progress on to the next stage of their lives as successful, responsible citizens. Our combination of care, support and excellent teaching ensure that the students are making the fantastic progress we're witnessing today."
